Much like in the past, breweries (and bars) are becoming a key part of today’s Daytonian culture. In some cases today’s brewpubs are opening up exactly where citizens enjoyed a drink well over a century ago.
For example, in 1874 William H. Gerber operated a saloon in the same location as the current Fifth Street Brewpub. Next door, at 1604 E. 5th Street, was William’s home. (William would probably be pleased to know that soon beer will be made where he once rested.)
